How do you keep weeds from overwhelming your garden under a bird feeder?

I mix sunflower seeds and wild bird feed into a large feeder hanging from a low tree. The birds kick the seed out onto the ground and I’m constantly weeding this spot to remove thousands of sprouts. Is there some nifty way to keep the ground cleared under a bird feeder?

How to hang a bird feeder off a tree branch I can’t reach?

There is a tree branch perfect to hang a bird feeder from. However, it is too high for me to reach to erect or to refill. I am wondering if there is some kind of light-duty pulley or hoist I could use to put over the tree branch and raise and lower the bird feeder.

Where is the best place to put a bird feeder?

We hung our new bird feeder on a ceiling hook on our back deck, however we haven’t seen any birds come to it yet. I tried resting the bird feeder on the ledge of our deck but no dice. The only tree we have on our property is a small tree in the front yard, but I would love to keep the bird feeder in the backyard. How can I get birds to come to it?

Homemade Bird Feeder Redesign

You can see this feeder in various forms in some of my other videos. As you can see in this incarnation, spillage is contained, there’s higher visibility for both viewing and the birds, and a lot more room for dinner parties. Don’t toss out all of your recyclables! Make them into something special!
