I have noticed the bird nest that was in my hanging basket has been abandoned… and there is one egg in there.. there used to be two but one fell out, and had yolk in it… and was a regular one.. I am concerned about the other one though… I’m ot sure if its a baby one…. because the mother has left it…
Is there any way to tell? Thanks. I need help ASAP for obvious reasons…. if it’s a baby egg I need to get it in inside and nurse it :]
If I do have to nurse it how would I?

There is a little birds nest on the ground in my yard, up against a tree trunk. I noticed today 2 of the 4 eggs were smashed. And the other 2 eggs are scattered but still very close by. Will the mother abandon the remaining eggs? Thanks for any answers!
There really isn’t a “nest” with twigs and stuff, it looks like she dug a little hole in the ground and laid the eggs in it. The remaining eggs are right at the edge of the hole, should I use a stick and try to manuever the eggs back in?

We have a purple finch that laid four eggs, all hatched and the young ones “flew the coop” so to speak. Now there is another finch, or the same one, that has laid three more eggs. Same bird?
I have a Dark Eyed Junco nest with 4 eggs that had 3 raided by a Scrub Jay. Will the mother return to 1 egg?

doing a class experiment on mating ritual of birds and since i have always been raised around them but never had one of my own, i figured i’d kill 2 birds with one stone
i’m currently looking into finches, but is there any other ones out there that breed multiple times a year, produce a lot of eggs, etc. cause the more data i can collect the better
thanks

What do I do about a bird’s nest in my hanging basket?

I have a very small porch area with Scaevola in a hanging basket, which a gray dove has decided makes a nice place for her nest (I don’t think there are any eggs yet, but she has been sitting on it all afternoon today). I know that they are protected by law, and I wouldn’t think about destroying the nest or scaring her away, but I am concerned because the basket she is in gets pretty baked in the sun, and I have a terrible time keeping plants alive in that location, even when I water twice a day (we’re in the midwest). I can’t exactly water while she’s in there, and I have read that watering over the eggs can hurt them. Should I just let the plant die and enjoy watching the birds on the porch? Should I try and move the whole basket to a different hook on the porch that will be more shaded?
