Why don’t wild birds eat wild bird seeds before farmers get to harvest it? How do they protect it?

I would think wild birds would get into a field of wild bird seed before the farmers could harvest the crop, how do they keep wild birds out until they are ready? thanks.

Can you feed baby chickens wild bird seeds?

We couldn’t find the proper food for them at the store but my mom kept saying that wild bird seeds are okay.

How to attract small wild birds to my garden?

I’ve a big park in the back of my house loaded with many wild birds. I did put a bird feed station in my rear garden a week ago. I loaded it with fat balls, seeds, nuts and water plate. Yet, not a single bird approached. Any thoughts.

I’m sorry. Let me clarify on the question of what backyard birds eat during the winter?

Of course some birds fly south. But chickadees for instance, don’t. And I know they sort of hibernate for a couple of weeks at a time if necessary. My question is this – what do they eat when they do eat? There are no seeds or berries or insects. There are no birdfeeders. Everything is covered with snow and frozen. Do they “eat” snow for water? I’m very curious as to what they actually eat when they do eat. Sometimes winter lasts five to six months with no growth or warmth.

I have a TON of wildbird seed on the ground.Any Ideas on how to save it?

I have a bird feed stake that holds 4 birdfeeders. I have been lucky enough to attract a lot of birds to my yard, however, if I fill them in the morning, I can get up the next morning and the birds have eaten through-out the night and have kicked all the birdseed out onto the ground and the feeders are empty. I must have a 3 inch pile of birdseed on the ground. Is there any ideas out there that can tell me how to catch and reuse this birdseed without raking it up and throwing it away?? The seeds drop into my flower bed and I have a ton of sunflowers growing, which I don’t want. I have gotten so mad, I have finally stopped feeding the birds. I can’t believe I am the only one that has their birdseed kicked out onto the ground. Any ideas would be helpful.

How come bird feet don’t freeze in the snow?

I am watching the birds on my patio eat the seeds I put out for them and I notice that they walk and hop all over the snow and do not seem at all bothered. They don’t seem to feel the cold at all on their feet. I wonder why that is.
