I have a big redheaded woodpecker that lives behind my house and it eats seeds from the bird feeder. I really enjoy watching it. It has been there for 3 years at least. How long redheaded woodpeckers live? I have never seen the female woodpecker. I assume the male has the redhead. But I don’t know. Do they have nests? I have never seen any babies either. Just this on big redheaded woodpecker every day for 3 years.

I live in Alabama, and I saw this bird in my backyard. It looks like some kind of woodpecker, but it might not be. I’m not sure what it is.

We found a bird in my backyard that nobody has ever seen before. Can you help us figure it out?
+It’s pretty small (about 3-5 inches)
+Deep blue wings
+Bright red chest
+White body
+Cone shaped beak
We live in coastal New Jersey if that helps.
At first we thought it was a woodpecker because it lives in a tree (inside it not in the branches of it) but it is too small to be a woodpecker.
Sorry, we can’t take a picture. We can’t get close enough because they keep flying away.
Thanks!

I live in Missouri, and a Spotted Woodpecker has made a nest on the top of my back door, so i cant open it. It is against the law to disturb the bird while nesting, but i need to use that door because its the only way to get to my backyard, where i have my garden and stray cats that i feed. What should i do??? It’s pretty cool to wacth the bird make the nest and everything, but its getting in my way..lol
