What types of birds are useful in eliminating mosquitoes? And how do you lure them to your yard?
Question by Dan: What types of birds are useful in eliminating mosquitoes? And how do you lure them to your yard?
I love working in my yard and have been hanging bird houses and bird feeders this year. I’ve really given no thought to particular types of birds though. Tonight I came inside because the mosquitoes were driving me crazy and it occurred to me that there is most likely some type of bird that eats mosquitoes…what are they and how do I get them to make my home their home?

I found a baby bird in my yard?
Category: Bird Emergency
Question by Piotr: I found a baby bird in my yard?
Hi, today I found a baby bird in my yard. Looks like it was just born it hasn’t even opened its eyes yet. I’ve been feeding it worms, but I’m not sure that’s enough. Should I be giving it something else like water? Or is the water in the worms good enough to keep it alive. I just want to help it survive until it can go out on its own thanks.

Answer by MamaSmurf
Put it back where you found it. The parents are still caring for it. It is probably just out of the nest and trying to learn to fly. If you move it, you will do it more harm than good. The parents know where he is and will continue to feed and care for it. This is what happens with baby birds. First they get out of the nest and then they learn to fly. Please don’t interfere with nature.

Need help identifying strange bird in my back yard?
Category: Identify Bird Calls
Question by Lilabug: Need help identifying strange bird in my back yard?
This bird lives in Michigan, middle of the mitten. It lives in my pine forest, has a long beak and strange call. It sounds like someone is grabbing its vocal cords and pulling on them like a tight rubber band. It looks like a Miniature stork or crane. Can anybody help. They started out as only a pair a couple of years ago and now I think we are up to 8 birds.

I bought this great brass solar bird feeder and hung it on a hook designed for such. It hangs on one side of the yard close to a flower bush. Not one bird has stopped by for lunch. The food I bought is a variety. I can’t even get a crow to stop. WHY?
